Live Cookbook Scan — Beta Disclaimer
Last updated: September 8, 2026
1. What “Beta” means here
A beta feature is pre-release, in-development software that has not completed full quality assurance, stability testing, or general-availability hardening. It is exposed early, behind an explicit opt-in, so that willing users can try it and help us find problems. It is not a finished product.
This feature will remain in beta for the foreseeable future. “Beta” status is not a countdown to a guaranteed stable release, and we make no commitment as to if or when it will graduate out of beta.
2. It may not behave as expected
Live Cookbook Scan relies on real-time camera analysis, automatic page detection, motion/sharpness heuristics, on-device frame selection, and multi-stage server-side reconciliation. Any of these can misbehave. In particular, the feature may, without warning:
- miss pages, capture the wrong frame, or capture blurry, cropped, or duplicated pages;
- mis-detect page boundaries, spreads, section dividers, or page numbers;
- reorder, merge, split, or drop pages during reconciliation;
- produce incomplete, inaccurate, or garbled extracted text and recipe data;
- freeze, crash, drain battery, overheat the device, or consume significant data/bandwidth;
- behave differently across devices, cameras, browsers, and lighting conditions;
- change, regress, or be disabled entirely at any time without notice.
3. No warranties
The feature is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, availability, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the feature will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any defect will be corrected.
Any output produced by the beta feature is not guaranteed to be correct and should be reviewed by you before you rely on it.
4. Data, retention & loss
Standard RecipExtract data handling applies: extraction data is transient and may be permanently deleted per our Terms of Service. Beta processing pipelines may fail partway through, and partially processed scans may be lost or unrecoverable. Do not use this feature as your only copy of anything important — keep your original cookbook and save anything you want to keep as soon as it is available.
Because it is experimental, the beta feature may log additional diagnostic/telemetry information about capture sessions to help us diagnose problems.
5. Availability on all plans
Beta testing is available to every account, regardless of plan — free, family, or premium. Enabling beta testing is free and does not change your subscription, billing, or plan tier. Beta features are not a paid entitlement; they may be added, changed, or removed independently of your plan at any time.
6. Your acknowledgement & consent
By enabling beta testing and/or using Live Cookbook Scan, you confirm that you have read and understood this disclaimer and that you knowingly accept the consequences of using experimental software, including the possibility of bugs, data loss, incorrect output, and service interruption.
You can withdraw consent at any time by turning off beta testing in Settings → Beta. Doing so disables access to beta-only features on your account.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vex Industries and RecipExtract are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising out of or relating to your use of the beta feature, including but not limited to lost data, lost recipes, wasted time, or device issues, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. This disclaimer supplements, and does not replace, the Terms of Service.
